Tips And Ideas For An Irish Theme Wedding

What’s the first thing you think of when someone says they are getting married? A white dress, a traditional church and everything just as it should be?
That’s what most of us think of, but more and more people are thinking of doing something a little more unusual when it comes to arranging their special day. For example you don’t need to be Scottish to get married in a kilt, and you don’t need to travel to Hawaii to have a beach themed wedding either!
One idea you could think about is an Irish theme wedding. This is more unusual and would certainly enter everyone into the spirit of things when the Guinness starts to flow after the wedding ceremony itself!
But where do you start when it comes to planning an Irish themed wedding?
Doing your research is essential if you want to make it as authentic as possible. For example the wedding rings that many Irish people wear are called Claddagh rings. These depict two hands holding a heart which bears a crown, and they are made in gold and silver among other precious metals; you will also find that the heart often contains a diamond or other precious stone.
But it’s not just the rings you will need to consider if you want an Irish wedding. Why not hire an Irish band to play traditional Irish music at the celebration after the wedding itself? You can also look for Irish theme wedding favors to put out on the tables; these could take the form of Claddagh shaped tokens or candy, or even lucky chocolate shamrocks!
Shamrocks are ideal to have at an Irish themed wedding because they are a symbol of good luck. You could make sure each person in the wedding party has a small shamrock shaped brooch or pin to wear for good luck on the day, for example. The color green is also reminiscent of Ireland, and while a green wedding dress may be taking things a step too far, you could still dress your wedding tables and decorations in shades of green, ideally emerald green for the best effect.
The traditional wedding meal can also be overhauled to include traditional dishes such as Irish stew – very unconventional for a wedding but sure to be memorable. You should also provide a vegetarian alternative for those who don't like meat.
Celtic knots are another part of the Irish culture, and these could be incorporated into the design of the wedding dress itself if you wish, perhaps in the embroidery. It would be a more subtle nod to Ireland without being too flamboyant.
But above all the Irish like to have fun and celebrate an event such as a wedding with real abandon. If you really want to have an alternative dance as you hit the dance floor, why not try an Irish jig? You might not get it right but it’s guaranteed to get everyone else up there with you!
